Picado of the Madeira Archipelago

Picado or picadinho is a traditional dish from Madeira. The chopped is usually served on a platter being shared by several people, who bite or serve themselves from the same platter, with a toothpick or fork. A delight to have a light meal.

Preparation Method

  1. Start by seasoning the meat with the bay leaf and chopped garlic, involving it well in these ingredients.
  2. In a wide frying pan, add the butter, then the meat, spread out so as not to catch, the cube of meat and the oil.
  3. At this stage you can add soy sauce if you like it, mushrooms with a little béchamel cream, and also green and red peppers to give the dish a special color.
  4. As it cooks, it should be stirred.
  5. Season with salt, oxtail soup, garlic, and white wine.
  6. Once done, the mixture is left to “marinate” a little inside the frying pan to gain more flavor.
  7. Madeiran chopped is usually accompanied with fries, salad, and olives.
  8. In certain places, it is also suggested the option of accompanying fried corn or white rice.
