The coriander seeds have fresh citrus notes that evoke tangerine juice. In the mouth, these grains have delicate lemon flavours.
Coriander is native to the eastern Mediterranean and was later introduced to North Africa, Central Europe, Asia and South America. It is one of the oldest spices. It has been mentioned in ancient Sanskrit texts, the Old Testament and the Ebers papyrus (1550 BC). It has been known in China for over 2,000 years. The Hebrews seasoned their pancakes with crushed coriander seeds. The Romans and Greeks used it to flavour their wines. Its use dates back to the dawn of time. It was introduced to Central Europe and England during the Roman presence.
