Considered one of the best seafood in the world

CHATKA has its origins in 1930 in the Bering Sea in the northern Pacific Ocean, near the Kamchatka Peninsula and neighbouring Alaskan waters. Its striking size and unique taste made it so valuable that in 1960 the Soviet Union decided to artificially introduce it into the Murmansk Fjord, the Barents Sea, to provide new catches. Shortly afterwards it would become known worldwide as ‘THE RED GOLD’.

At a depth of more than 1000 metres in the icy waters of the subarctic seas, these exceptional creatures adapted perfectly to their new environment. The climate, the unpredictability of the waters and the great difficulty in catching them (considered one of the hardest jobs in the world) have made this magnificent species develop and evolve to the point of becoming one of the best seafoods in the world.

Its great strength and adaptability has promoted this large crab to spread over the years in the Sea of Okhotsk, Bering Sea and in smaller quantities in the Gulf of Alaska in the Pacific Ocean, in the Barents Sea, White Sea and North Norwegian Coast in the Atlantic Ocean.

This CHATKA King Crab is the largest of the crustaceans. Its carapace measures more than 30 cm and its full size including its gigantic legs can reach up to 2m. Thanks to their great strength they can live up to 20 years and reach a weight of more than 15 kg.
